A Celebration That's Uniquely Derry
You can't tell Derry's story without talking about the railroad.
Originally known as Derry Station, the community grew around the Pennsylvania Railroad beginning in the 1800s. The railroad became an important part of both the town and the lives of generations of local families.
Today, Railroad Days keeps that history alive while bringing the community together for a weekend-long celebration.
And you definitely don't have to be a train enthusiast to enjoy it!
Bring the Family for a Weekend of Fun
There's something extra special about those hometown festivals where you run into people you know, grab something good to eat, let the kids have some fun, and spend the day enjoying your community.
That's exactly the kind of weekend waiting at Derry Railroad Days.
Families can look forward to vendors, music, food, and much more, along with plenty of opportunities to explore the festival and celebrate everything that makes Derry special.
Don't Miss the Hobo Picnic
The fun actually gets started before Railroad Days weekend!
The traditional Hobo Picnic returns Thursday, September 17, kicking off the Railroad Days celebration.
It's another piece of the tradition surrounding this much-loved Derry event.
Celebrating Derry's Past, and Its Community Today
Railroad Days might have started as a way to celebrate Derry's railroad heritage, but it's also become something bigger: a chance for the community to come together year after year.
For parents, it's an opportunity to introduce the kids to a little local history while making some new memories of their own.
And with fall arriving in Westmoreland County, the timing couldn't be better.
